Using sonification principles to explore the boundaries of spatial audio perception, Ocean of Sound recreated the elegant formations of schooling baitfish to create an aurally immersive three-dimensional underwater environment.

Boidal flocking simulations and ambisonic panning techniques translate the position of each “fish” in real-time on an x-y-z plane to a corresponding position within the eight-channel cubic audio system.
